In 2014 the local tourism industry provided financing to sponsor creation of Trancoso Fishermen's Association with the objective of guaranteeing the future of traditional fishing. Today approximately 100 fishermen from 30 families go to sea in 10 small wooden boats and fish with line-in-hand instead of using fishing poles. Fishing nets are used only in April when small hand nets are thrown directly from the beach to catch mullet, a seasonal delight.
