Quadrado Woods

Bosque do Quadrado - at the heart of the historic and tourist center, a wooded area designated for conservation decades ago.

For many years the community of Trancoso dreamed of expanding the tourist miracle of the Historical Town Square - the Quadrado - to other areas of the city, understanding the successful characteristics of the historic atmosphere, preserved natural environment, barely visible tourism mechanisms and a strong focus on walkability.

OTT's first major initiative is the endorsement of the Projeto de Preservação do Bosque (PPB) - Project for Preservation of the Quadrado Forest - a community initiative originated in 2019 which received approval from IPHAN (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage) in 2023 and has been awaiting approval and execution by the municipality ever since. The project aims to expand Trancoso's central preservation area by almost double, from the famous Historical Quadrado to the adjacent neighborhoods, securing green, walkable areas for pedestrians while reducing motor vehicle traffic, visual, air and noise pollution, strengthening Trancoso’s competitiveness and livability. New public transport offerings are a key element of the proposal, offering dynamic benefits for the entire community.
